Seventeen

It seems just like yesterday, our little girl was born at 5:48 p.m. 8 lbs 8 ozs. Today she turned 17! Last night as we were on our way out to dinner at one of Katie's favorite's,"Longhorn", we were sharing special memories of that day!

Of course with her being the first grandchild, on both sides, the grandparents were especially excited! The night I went into labor, we called both sides to let them know we were on our way to the hospital. What happened next still makes us all laugh! My in laws were waiting for us when I got to triage! Hilarious! They had no clue I'd be in labor for 18 hours. So cute. Katie loves this story...we all do!

Where we used to live, it seemed that everyone we knew was expecting at the same time
. Everywhere you'd go people would ask "What are you going to name your baby?" We didn't want to tell, because rumor had that people would take your name...small southern town! My husband had a great idea. He told people if it was a girl we were naming her after family, Polly after his aunt and Ester after my grandmother and call her Polly Ester! After a while no one asked any more. Another one of Katie's favorite stories. She is named after her great grandmother Emily and my mother Kathleen. To this day she still loves this story!

A child truly is a gift from God. I'm so grateful for everyday I have with the beautiful young woman. Our struggles and trials have brought us hope and purpose...a renewed strength!

When I see my daughter, I see a miracle and know that through Jesus Christ all things are possible!

Such a beautiful post! I so enjoyed reading about your lovely daughter! Makes me remember when my Jen was born...my in-laws are always early for everything. They thought she would arrive after hours and hours of labor. She was born c-section in just a couple of hours and they almost missed it! We still love to tease them about their one time of daudling! teehee!

Treasure every moment with your lovely girl...each day is a gift!

Bless you,
Susan

They grow up so quickly, don't they?! What a wonderful post...a beautiful way to celebrate your daughter's birthday! She's gorgeous.

I had to chuckle at the name, Polly Esther. When I was expecting our first boy, he was such a big baby that everyone kept asking if we were having twins. My hubby would always say, "Yes - a boy and a girl. We're naming them Polly Esther and Fiber Phil." LOL Sounds like our hubbies would get along great together!

Happy Birthday, Katie!

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful daughter! Happy Birthday to Katie. You both are creeping ever closer to that "letting go" stage; honestly, it was the hardest walk I've had to make as a parent. Still and yet, God gave me a great strength during that season and time has healed the struggle/pain.

I know you are enjoying each day that you have with Katie. May God grant you peace and wisdom as you navigate this season before her release.

Prayers all around as you do!

Don't you just love looking back to the beginning - to the time when you had nothing but a blank canvas before you? Now, all of a sudden, you have the outlines of a beautiful masterpiece, ready to be filled in with the colors she alone will choose. So, so beautiful!

Happy Birthday Katie!

Happy 17th birthday to Katie!
She is so beautiful. I know you are so proud and so thankful to God for bringing her into your life.

The same thing happened to me with my first born. We had family there early on and I was in labor FOREVER. Our son weighed 8.8 too. :)

Thanks for sharing with us.

Have a good week!

Happy Birthday! So cute. I love the name story. And it is true. We kept our names too in fact, we're still keeping our "Girl" name. :)

Your daughter is so cute - she just looks like a fun lovin' person. My children will be turning 7 soon and I can't believe it - I can't imagine how I will feel one they turn 17!

Also I love how you call your father "daddy" - mine is "daddy" too!
