Summer Reading

There's nothing I enjoy more than sitting down with a good book and letting the day or evening slip away. I confess during the summer when I don't have to get up at 5:00 a.m., I will sit up until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning reading!

You may recall back in the spring when I bought the book, Embrace Me. Great Christian fiction, with characters that may seem all to real if you turn on the t.v. I just finished it last week and I must say that it was quite an interesting book. Lisa Samson creatively brought out in this book what we might find at times uncomfortable to discuss. It challenged me to really think about ministry in our society in a whole different light. If you've read Quaker Summer, by Samson, I'm considering that as a possible next read ...I'd love your feedback if you've read it.

Another book I'm reading right now is by John Eldredge, Walking with God. My husband suggested this and it is excellent. This is Eldredge's narrative of his journey in learning to hear the voice of God. Excellent.

The Dive From Clausen's Pier is a book that was loaned to me by a friend a couple of years ago that I'd tucked away on a shelf and completely forgotten about. If you've read it and would recommend it, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

My husband is reading Uncommon by Tony Dungy. This was part of his Father's Day gift. He's also reading The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel. According to him both are excellent reads!

Our daughter is reading Blood Covenant by Michael Franzese. This is a book about the author and how he quit the mob, and lived to tell about it. Oh and I forgot to mention that he is now a Christian and on a mission to lead others to Christ. Our family heard him speak and I must say it was a very compelling story! This is one I'd like to read as well.

Although I enjoy reading, the reality is that I don't keep it up once I go back to work each August! My goal this year however, is to carve out more time for reading and devotions. When I'm working, I find that early morning is really best for devotions...it's nice and quiet, very little interruption. Evenings seem to be best for other reading when all the other chores are done and the day is coming to a close, then I can settle in with a good book!

Embrace a good read and quiet time with God!

Ginger,
I love to read and right now I'm reading a book that my son suggested, "Skin" by Ted Dekker and it is a thriller. EEK!!!

I read "Straight Up" by Samson earlier this year and it was so good. I really like this book.

Have a Blessed evening,
Dawn

I used to read constantly...I've gotten out of the habit, though. I've got a great set of books that I need to read right now. You've inspired me...I'm going to start reading again tonight! :-)

Blessings,
Beth

"Walking with God" looks like one I might enjoy. I'm currently reading Ravi Zacharias' "Grand Weaver." I'm not much into fiction, but anything non-fiction that's going to lead me to the heart of God, I'm all over it.

Love Eldredge.

Hello, Ginger. Thanks for stopping by 2nd Cup and leaving a note to let me know. I'm enjoying your blog. I'm always happy to find people near my age with a similar style of writing. Also, your design is really cute. I'm looking to get a blog face lift soon, so I may check out your designer. Nice to meet you!
