As I was changing the sheets on the beds the other day, the smell of the the fresh linens took me back to summer days when I used to run in and out of the sheets as a little girl when they were hanging on the clothes line. When I'd finally place my head on the pillow that night, after a long day of play, the smell wouldn't be of fabric softener or scented dryer sheets, just pure country air.
Isn't is funny how something so simple can take you back to days gone by! It got me to thinking about some of my favorite summer smells and scents.
*Summer Rain~ I love the smell of rain on a summer day. For some reason it's fresher than during any other season of the year to me. Maybe it's because the earth is just thirsty and needs refreshing.
*Fried Chicken~ I'm not talking KFC, not that it's not good in a hurry, I'm talking cooked from the kitchen like your mama fried it in the iron skillet. Dipped in butter milk and in flour! I know...you can smell this all year, but there's something about fried chicken and summer that just go together. Throw homemade banana pudding in and it's the real deal! Call me quirky!
*Fresh Mowed Grass~ Don't like to cut it, but sure like to smell it!
*Salt Air~ Ocean air is a smell all its own that can't be bottled! You just have to be there. One of my favorites.
*Coconut& Lime~ I love the smell of coconut oil...so beachy...so tropical. Have you tried the hand soap from Bath and Body call Coconut Lime Verbena? It's a mini vacation every time you wash your hands!
*The Charcoal Grill~ Gotta love that hearty, rich, robust, rustic, smell. Too, I know I'm not cooking...my wonderful husband is cooking!
These are just a few of my favorites...what are some of yours?
Embrace the day!
Ginger :)

I LOVE all these smells, too!!
Mmmm...what great smells! I love the smell of garden fresh tomatoes. Yummy! I also love fresh sheets on my bed. One of my favs in life!
You and I think alike...I can't think of anything to add to your wonderful list! Oh, wait...I thought of one...my mother's peach cobbler! Yummmm...
Oooh...these smells are fabulous! I love all of them too! Hmmm...I'm thinking I could add one but you've had to smell it to "get it". Know that musty antiquey type smell when you're in an old barn? Like if you could press your nose against the old wood? I also love the smell of Jergen's lotion. My Mammaw used to rub us all up with it after our baths when we spent the night with her and Pappaw on Saturday nights. Thanks for takin' me back girl!
Oh--you picked perfect smells that bring back such great memories:) I love the smell of wood in a fire place on a chilly night:)
Hi Ginger...so enjoyed my visit today!! Loved each one of your favorite summer smells and I so totally agree with you...
The fried chicken in the iron skillet, and sheets on the line take me back too!!!
Bless you, sweetie,
Susan
I think the summer rain has a unique smell when it dries from the pavement. One of my very fav summer aromas is Coppertone; that's from my childhood. Loved your list.
I'm with you on "fresh rain"; I also love the scent of fresh laundry from someone's dryer while I'm out running ... "Gain" being the preferred scent.
Do cool breezes have a scent? I'm pretty sure they do. I, for one, love to take them in.

I'm so with you on the fried chicken sister. I have been told that my chicken wings should be sold publicly (smile).
I love the smell of fried chicken southern style!
I love your list.
Blessings dear one.
O and a smell that I grew up with and so miss now is my Grandma's Sweet Potato Pie homemade!
I know she's made a few for the LORD since she's been there :)
Running through the sheets brought back those simple beautiful memories of growing up---where in the summer, all you wore was your bathing suit and no shoes! Did you have one of those little blue plastic pools in your yard as well? We would drag one of the picnic table benches over to it and pretend it was a diving board!! Small town fun!!
I also read some of your other sweet posts which are stories after my own heart!! Sounds like we had similar lifstyles growing up.
Hugs!
Susan
PS-Where in NC do y'all live?
Hey, Ginger! Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit to my blog! I absolutely love your list. You and I would get along great. I love all of the same things you do! I also couldn't help but notice your favorite movies and music. We have SO much in common. I did notice one thing I haven't been able to experience... That would be good Fried Chicken. Living in Michigan, my mama never fried it in an iron skillet. (In fact, she never had one!) I could almost smell it through the computer screen. I'll be right on down there to have some! This was a great idea to post your favorites. I'll be back to read more of your blog when I get some time. I can already tell I like you!
Love,
Angie xoxo
When I smell sausage cooking I think of my Nannie's house. She always made the best breakfasts!
I love the smell of rain....
The ocean....
Freshly cut grass.....
Coconut sun tan lotion always reminds me of my trips to Hawaii.
I remember when everyone hung clothes out on the line. Does anyone do that now? And, speaking of... I love the smell of fresh, clean laundry.
Oh there are many more...I could go on and on. :)
