Don't you just love the look and smell of a clean house? Over the last few days, and a few last week, I've been trying really hard to tackle a room each day and do some deep cleaning. Pulling out, throwing away, wiping down, cleaning in corners...places that nobody else could possibly see but me, or at least I hope.
I'm blown away how I manage to spot clean and hit the high spots throughout the school year and things somehow don't look too shabby. If you were to walk in my house, the surface would look o.k. On the flip side of that, if you took a look behind the dryer or underneath the bed or behind the sofa, it would be a different story. During each season I attempt to do a deep cleaning and need to do it more often than that! Why? What I find is that this is not usually enough from one season to the next...the dust collects.
What all this reminded me of today when I was cleaning the top of my very dusty refrigerator, that nobody else could see but me, was my life as a Christian. More times that not, I will try to appear as if I have it together as a Christian, when in reality I'm really dusty, in need of a deep cleansing. Oh, I hit the high spots: go to church, attend small group, and read my bible. On the surface it may look just fine, but God really knows my heart. He knows those places down deep that are in need of a deep cleaning that others may not see. The real me.
I'm finding in this journey, in this walk, a relationship that I never really embraced deeply until just a few years ago, even though I proclaimed Jesus as my Savior, I was a surface Christian. It was all about what looked good. The front of the fridge with all the pictures, not the top!
Each day, not every now and then, I need to renew my life to God, asking Him to guide me, through prayer, praise and reading His word.
Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.
Embrace a clean heart!

Ginger--you say you aren't a writer but your post is a perfect example of a well-written devotional:) Try submitting someday!
I agree with Terri...this would be a great devotional.
Oh, and by the way...were you looking over my shoulder when you decided to write this? Ouch...you speak the truth!
Blessings,
Beth :-)
Amen! And somedays I need both types of cleaning!
I agree with the other ladies...you are a great writer my friend!
As always, a wonderful post! Thanks for reminding all of us that we need more than a mere dustin' every now and then. Have a wonderful weekend now that things are "cleaner" around your house---inside and out!
I'm in the midst of a spiritual deep cleaning right now, and it's hard. Unlike past seasons, I'm willing to bend to this one. I've seen the benefit from allowing Christ his hands in my matters.
It's not easy, but it's good.
Keep to it, Ginger. He is so worth it.

I believe that this has to be one of my most favorite posts!! Wow, you hit the nail on the head, Ginger! I was planning on scrubbing bathrooms and sat down at the computer for a few "visits"--hmm...conviction for cleaning my home and my heart. Thanks so mcuh! Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Susan
So true my friend! I have often found that when I do deep cleaning in the natural, it is often tied into some spiritual cleaning taking place as well.
I agree with Terri. That post IS a devotional.
Love!

WOW - this was a great post! Not only is it "oh so true" and well written, it's something I'm likely to ponder this evening now. And it's one of my absolute favorite verses, so now I know I"ll always remember it.
Oh, I've got dust bunnies all over me then! Loved this post--the application. Next time I clean (which better be soon if we want to go through w/ our July 4th party) I'll remember this!

I too walked this journey years ago and it's a good walk to walk as it draws you deeper, closer to the LORD and suddenly the masks come off and transparency is right there! It's a beautiful and at times painful but very necessary process and it's not just ONCE but God prunes and reveals to us all the time.
I love you and your honest heart Ginger.
