Just before dark tonight, Tony and I took a walk. As the sun was beginning to set, another light began to twinkle in the almost night sky. The fireflies were zipping here and there. First one, then another and then more than I could count lit up our evening walk. It was like a fireworks display on a small scale...simply gold and beautiful.
As we walked, those little lights brought back memories of late evenings running barefoot in the yard with my sister trying to catch fireflies in a mason jar or in our hands. Feet wet with dew from the night, and grass stuck between toes, we ran to catch the flying stars, hoping just to capture one for a night light!

I haven't seen one since I was little child!
Ginger, isn't it amazing how the simple things of life will bring back such good memories!! My sister and I would do the same thing....we had such fun!!!
Blessings!

We used to catch them in our backyard as I grew up. You know, they don't have them here where I live in Fla. Wonder why?
Oh what a sweet memory! I love fireflies!
This immediately made me think of a night long ago, spent with my little brother. I wrote about it a year ago here:

I'd love for you to read it! Blessings friend...hoping for many more special summer evenings for you and your honey.

Thank you for sharing with us. It reminded me of YEARS gone by when my oldest brother and I would run around my Grandparents yard collecting them in jars and whoever collected the most had to give up their ice cream to the other for that night.
Guess who always won?
We'd always set them free before going inside.
Love ya.
We call them 'lightning bugs' here. We haven't seen any this year, but it's still a little early here.
Sounds like you have some great memories! Thinking about summer brings back memories of sleeping under an open window, hoping for a breeze, turning my pillow to 'the cold side,' listening to the crickets chirp, hiding under the bed to read....all wonderful memories. :-)
Ginger,
Oh these brings back such memories of my childhood. I loved to go out and catch those babies and put them in a jar with holes in the lid I made myself. I was always so careful because I wanted them to have plenty of air. The lights were so fascinating to me.
Thanks for this flash back =)

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I just posted the last Disney post....
Hope you will enjoy it.
Stop by when you have some time.
I love all my new blog friends
Oh what a wonderful time you had. I am new to the south and have really enjoyed fireflies! :o)

I took the young ones to my folks for an overnight this week. While sitting on their back porch, my son asked me about the fireflies (what they were, etc.). We found some mason jars and went to collecting. The kids had a blast! We later released them.
Funny how we take some childhood memories for granted. I enjoyed relieving a few via my own kids.
Thanks for checking in with me. Have a relaxing weekend and great summer.

What a precious memory!
We used to catch those too. I wonder why we don't see as them anymore?
You always have the sweetest posts.
Amen to bringing back memories! We never were sophisticated enough to call them fireflies. We always called them Lightening Bugs. We still do!
I so enjoy reading your posts! Are you enjoying some well needed and well deserved time off? I surely am--Praise God!
Have a wonderful evening!
I'm making some good supper again tonight! hee hee
OMG when I used to live in Texas (I was real little) my dad would sit on the back patio and we would watch the "lightning bugs" ..Thank you for the post I almost forgot about that memory!!
