Father's Day Early...It's the Little Things!

This weekend we traveled home to visit with our families for an early Father's Day.
It was really nice just spending time with our dads. We are both very blessed to still have our fathers with us, both men of strong conviction and faith.

For me it was especially nice this visit just knowing that I wasn't in a such a rush to get home on Sunday night to get up and go to work on Monday morning!

My daddy is a very simple man, and often finding the right Father's Day gift can be quite a challenge, but this year I got him something he really loves....little coca colas and small packs of peanuts. He loves to put the peanuts in his coke! Does anyone else do that? As a child I would go to the country store with him, and he would buy us small coca colas and peanuts. I'd tear the bag open and pour the peanuts inside! Sipping my coca cola trying to swallow every peanut, I'd hang on every word while Daddy would talk to Mr. Ed Smith about politics and weather and whether or not the crops were going to be good or not.

It's so hard to buy for someone in their 80's. So I figured along with his cokes and peanuts, a gift card to McDonald's to have coffee with the ROMEO Club (Real Old Men Eating Out) would be just perfect. It's the little things in life!

Here are a few more pictures from the weekend. Mama, Katie and Daddy...he's being quite the ham!

Mama, Katie, my cousin Evelyn, and Aunt Gray. They stopped by for a short visit.

It was not easy getting this picture! Simple man..simple wardrobe. Blue and khaki coveralls. As soon as we got home from church on Sunday, Daddy was ready to change out of his suit. You might say he's not much for dressing up! It was really nice going back to our old church on Sunday, hearing the pipe organ, singing the old hymns and hearing the pastor that married us preach a dynamic sermon.

Sunday afternoon after lunch, we took the golf cart around the pasture to see the cows. This is what we found...less than an hour old, a new baby calf! Still amazes me..new life!

More thoughts on fathers later this week. Have a great day!
Ginger

Beautiful pictures of your family. And peanuts and cokes takes me back! I'm going to really try and remember that so that when my granddaughter gets a little older I can share that special memory with her as well. I used to get those with my grandpa when we'd go visit. Love passing things through the generations.

I traveled over from Count It All Joy and I am glad I did. Your father reminds me of my sweet daddy. I can still see him in his overalls and working out in his garden. He, too, was a simple man.

What grace you had that day...a father's love and to witness the start of life. Amazing.

Shalom,
Denise

Your daddy is so sweet, Ginger. I know you love him so much. I always enjoy hearing about your simple times at your parents house. I love that kind of life!! I wish I had more "simpleness" in my own life sometimes! :)

My dad gets so pumped when ever we get him a Home Depot gift card LOL! I always feel bad because I want to get him something different, but he really likes nothing more than to shop at that store EVERY Saturday :)
